PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the unevenness of illuminating light resulting from synthesis of three colors by preventing the occurrence of color irregularities in a color image, and to prevent the size of an optical engine from being increased. SOLUTION: In a projector device, light from a light source 1 is separated to light of three primary colors of red, blue, and green, and these primary color light rays are led to each liquid crystal display panel 13 and are subjected to luminance modulation by using an input signal and are synthesized by a dichroic prism 14, and this synthesized light is projected in a magnified condition on a prescribed screen 16. An illuminating optical system wherein a combination mirror 11 which inverts optical images of primary color light in refracting directions of optical paths is arranged is provided in a relay optical path for color separation.
