PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the superior transmission efficiency of an optical signal by preventing a cylindrical lens from being strained thereby efficiently converging an optical signal emitted by an optical semiconductor element on an optical fiber. SOLUTION: A package for storing an optical semiconductor element comprises: a base body 1 with which a base 5 having on its upper surface a mount part 5a for mounting the optical semiconductor element 8 is joined; a frame body 2 which is joined with the outer peripheral part of the upper main surface of the base body 1 so as to surround the base 5 and has a through hole 2a for inserting and fixing an optical fiber 6 at its side part; the cylindrical lens 4 which is formed with a metal layer 4a at its side peripheral surface and of which the one end surface is disposed between the mount part 5a on the upper surface of the base 5 and the through hole 2a so as to be opposite to the through hole 2a, the lower surface of the metal layer 4a being brazed to the top surface of the base so that the other end surface of the lens 4 is directed to the mount part 5a; and a roof-shaped holding member 9 which has its internal surface in contact with the side peripheral surface of the lens 4 and its lower-end surface brazed to the top surface of the base 5.
