PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device which converts heat generated by a heater into power and reuses the heat for consumption by the heater and an image forming apparatus using the same. SOLUTION: One end of a thermoelectric transducer 24 is arranged on a ventilation path which processes waste heat, etc. during preheating standby in the vicinity of a fixing roller. Power consumption is reduced and starting time is shortened when the fixing device 20 is started by: converting thermal energy such as the excess heat of a fixing heater 23 into electric energy with the thermoelectric transducer 24; storing the output power of the thermoelectric transducer 24 in a capacitor circuit 35; discharging the capacitor circuit 35 in starting the fixing device 20 for which power is required most; and supplying the power to the fixing heater 23.
