1277415 Antibiotic compositions GLAXO LABORATORIES Ltd 30 May 1969 [14 June 1968 (2)] 28527/68 and 28531/68 Heading A5B [Also in Division C2] Pharmaceutical compositions having antibiotic activity comprise a ceph-3-em-4-carboxylic acid having at the 7-position either a group of formula: ArCH(X')CONH-, or a group of formula: and in the 3-position a group of formula: -CH 2 S(O) m R', wherein Ar is an aromatic or heterocyclic group, X' is amino, substituted amino, hydroxy, formyloxy or C 1 to C 6 alkanoyloxy, R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> are C 1 to C 4 alkyl groups derived from an aldehyde R<SP>2</SP>.R<SP>3</SP>.CO, m is 0 or 1, and R' is C 1 to C 4 alkyl; or a non-toxic salt or ester thereof, together with a pharmaceutically acceptable diluent or carrier. The compositions may be in forms for oral or parenteral administration or for topical application.
