A surgical table extension (28) has a radiolucent inner support member (30) removably attachable to an end of a surgical table (22) and extending outward therefrom in cantilever fashion. A radiolucent outer support member (32) is mounted to the inner support member [30], and the outer support member (32) can be securely fixed in a desired position relative to the inner support member (30) via a locking screw (42), thereby to achieve a desired length for the table extension (28).
