The automobile drive train (12) has an IC engine (14), a friction clutch (16), a drive transmission (18) and an axle drive (20), coupled to the output of the drive transmission via an angled drive shaft (22). The IC engine lies between the front and rear axles (VA,HA) of the automobile (10), the drive transmission located behind the engine, with the angled drive shaft extending from a point behind the rear axle and the rear axle.
