1277346 Door closer SOC D'ETUDES VERRIERES APPLIQUEES 2 June 1970 [4 June 1969] 26584/70 Headings E2F and E2M A door closer for a two way swing door comprises a spring 13 acting on a lever 16 engaging a cam 19 on a door shaft 8, a damping piston 20 coupled to the lever 16 and a throttle orifice 30 for the damping fluid of length sufficiently less than its width so that fluid flow through the orifice is turbulent. As shown, Fig. 4, the orifice is formed in a chamber 28 having a screw 29, the screw-end having a conical cavity. The piston has a one-way ball valve and a spring loaded safety valve. The spring 13 may be connected to a casing 4 at 14 and articulated to the lever 16 by a knife edge in a groove 33, the lever being pivoted at 17; alternatively, Fig. 6 (not shown), the spring may be mounted between a pull rod connected to the casing and a stirrup pivoted to the lever 16 on the same side of the pivot 17 as the piston. Rollers 18 and 22 act respectively on cams 19 and 21 mounted on the shaft 8; only one cam 19 may be provided. The cam 19 may be so shaped that the theoretical restoring force acting on the cam when open to 20‹ and 90‹ is, respectively, less than 80% and 50% of its initial value. The casing 4 may be filled with oil and adjustably mounted in an outer casing embedded in the floor. The pivots 8, 17 and 18 may have ball-bearings. Resisting Hinging and Pivoting: The cam 19 may have a depression 34 corresponding to the closed position and depressions 36 symmetrically placed either side thereof engageable by roller 18 for holding the door open at an angle of 105‹. If only one cam is used (Fig. 6), roller 22 may engage the depressions 36. |
