1278359 Bearings ALLIED CHEMICAL CORP 12 Nov 1969 [13 Feb 1969] 55459/69 Heading F2A A method of making a composite bearing comprises forming a tubular section of a bearing material 20 around a mandrel 10, winding a polymeric material 30 around the section, subjecting the assembly to heat treatment to cause the polymeric material to shrink tightly round the section, and removing the mandrel. The polymeric material is a mixture of a matrix polymer, such as polycaproamide (70 parts by weight), and a higher melting filler polymer, such as polyethylene terephthalate (30 parts by weight); the temperature of the heat treatment is chosen to be between the two melting points (250‹ C.). Polymers may be selected from: polyamides, polyesters, polyolefins, polysulphones, polyphenyl oxides, and polycarbonates. The assembly may be cooled in a water bath to facilitate removal of the mandrel. |
