Circuit and process for enhancing the efficiency of a power amplifier

A circuit to increase efficiency of a power amplifier in a UMTS transmitter comprises a linear power amplifier (1) with signal (1.1) and bias voltage (1.3) inputs and a variable gain amplifier (9). A control can alter the bias voltage and there are means (5,6) to compensate phase differences from alteration of the power amplifier between input and output. An independent claim is also included for a process for the above.
