Apparatus and method for discontinuous polycondensation

A batch process synthesizes condensation polymers from an oligomer pre-product by cracking and evaporation of low-molecular condensation products. The reaction takes place in a conical container with heated mantle and containing a helical rotating mixer. The mixer mantle is an inverted cone with an apex of 30-60[deg]. An independent claim is also included for a condensation reactor whose height is 0.8 times that of the conical base. The mixer moves either continually or intermittently and is separated from the inner sidewall by a gap of 3 to 25 mm. The separation distance is set by raising or lowering the mixer.
