1356115 Cooling eiectric motors JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 18 Oct 1971 [27 Oct 1970] 50878/70 Heading H2A In a fuel supply arrangement for an I.C. engine, the risk of vapour lock, at a location at which low fuel pressure is associated with increased temperature i.e. at the inlet of an electric motor driven fuel pump, is reduced by providing a pressure responsive spill valve 13 downstream of the pump 11 which is driven by an electric motor 12 to supply fuel to the engine 14, and passing fuel spilled from the valve 13 through a heat exchanger associated with the motor, in order to cool the latter. The heat exchanger may comprise a plurality of coils of pipe 15 or, in other embodiments, a jacket surrounding either the whole of the motor length or that end which is adjacent the pump, and effects the cooling by vaporization |
