PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for detecting a synchronizing signal are provided to make a hardware structure simple and reduce manufacturing costs by using time information included in an OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) signal. CONSTITUTION: A time information receiving part receives time information from a GPS(Global Positioning System)(50). A synchronizing signal calculation part(70) calculates the location of a synchronizing signal included in a frame which forms an OFDM signal received on the basis of the time information, and then generates a synchronization detection signal. A timer(60) is synchronized with the time information from the GPS and then applies time information self-generated every a predetermined time to the synchronizing signal calculation part.
