A portable media player (2) with an identity, an adaptable information item containing a media list of titles linked to the identity, two networks and an access key linked to the identity are all present in the system. The media list is adapted by providing access to the information item using a communication link with the access key via the second network (10), e.g. Internet. The media player communicates with the first network (8), e.g. mobile phone network, so that the player sends the identity associated with it. The identity received by the first network is used to request the media list from the information item. A media file is then sent to the player via the first network, after which at least one of the titles disappears from the media list.
