PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for controlling a memory of a mobile terminal are provided to effectively use a memory for storing a voice message of a sender. CONSTITUTION: Analog voice data of the other party is converted into digital data, and then is decoded(401,402). It is determined whether a terminal is set for an automatic answering function(403). If the automatic answering function is set, the decoded voice data and a comfort noise are compared(405). If the comparison result is not the comfort noise(voiceless data)(406), it is stored in a voice memory receiving unit(407). If the comparison result is the comfort noise, it is not stored in the voice memory receiving unit(408). It is determined whether received voice data has been completely processed(409). When the received voice data has been completely processed, the voice data is transferred to an audio receiving/processing unit, processed into an audio signal(410), and then, outputted through a speaker(411).
