The assembly to cut laterally across a web, and especially of cardboard, has a lower conveyor belt (3) to carry the cut sheets over a suction box (10) fitted with suction slits (11) at its upper wall section (12). The sheets are carried for a short period without tension, to next stretch. The braking and overlapping action on the cut sheets is at a short gap from the conveyor belt deflection roller (7).
