PURPOSE: A writing material is provided to prevent the pen tip from contacting a ring-shaped sealing portion of a cap when a cap is mounted on the pen, with a low cost. CONSTITUTION: The writing material includes a cap(2), a writing material body(5) and a ring-shaped sealing portion(31). The cap(2) includes an inner tube portion(3), an outer tube portion having both ends open(4), many connecting ribs(21), and many vent holes. The writing material body(5) has a pen tip(8). The open end of the inner tube portion extends to the rear, passing the ribs. When the cap(2) is put in the writing material body on the pen-tip side, the inner tube portion(3) covers the pen tip. The ring-shaped sealing portion arranged on the circumferential surface of the open end of the inner tube portion engages with a ring-shaped seal(61) when the cap(2) is mounted on the writing material body(5).
