The method involves receiving a packet from a network by a node, and receiving information independent of an open system interconnection (OSI) layer protocol of the packet by the node. The information concerns the type of data transported in the packet, data transmission source and data recipient other than network address of packet transmission source. The packet is processed by the node based on data description (13). The OSI layer protocol is a transmission control protocol (TCP) or a user datagram protocol (UDP). Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a data packet for a packet communication network (b) a data packet generator.
