PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for coating an optical fiber with a resin, by which the run-out of a wire of the optical fiber can be prevented and which relates to a technology for coating the optical fiber with the resin and is useful in the technology comprising letting a purge gas flow for preventing mixing of air bubbles into a coating resin or sticking of fine particles in the atmosphere or of volatile components of the coating resin onto the optical fiber. SOLUTION: In a purge section 2 provided at the upper part of a nipple 3 in a device for coating the optical fiber with the resin, a purge gas is let flow toward the same direction as the traveling direction of a bare optical fiber 7 from a purge gas discharge port 2b .
