PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sorting device and a method for controlling the same that can enhance workability because it is not necessary for an operator to check paper sheets accumulated in a reject pocket. SOLUTION: The device is organized to check a cause for rejecting paper sheets during online processing (during operation of the paper-sorting device), to locate a sorting pocket where a trouble such as sticking of paper sheets to a sorting gate 33 occurs, and to display a warning by displaying the sorting pocket having the trouble.
