<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for searching the cell of a mobile station in a mobile communication system which improves the detection accuracy of the synchronous code and an S/N of a synchronization channel, raising the detection probability of a base station, and improving the processing efficiency of a cell search. <P>SOLUTION: The method for searching the cell of the mobile station in the mobile communication system includes a step of detecting a primary synchronous code contained in a primary synchronization channel of a plurality of paths from one or a plurality of base stations, and establishing slot timing synchronization of each path. Then, the method further includes a step of judging whether the plurality of the paths in which the slot timing synchronization is established are the paths from the same base station or not, classifying the paths of the same base station into a group, and selecting one of the classified groups. Then, the method includes a step of detecting the 2nd synchronous code contained in the 2nd synchronization channel of this group by rake combining of all the paths contained in the selected group, and performing establishing of frame timing synchronization of the path and identification of scrambling code group.
