PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sprocket for a roller chain capable of suppressing the occurrence of noise in the engagement or disengagement of the roller chain, distributing load to many teeth when a drive force is transmitted, and suppressing the failure of the roller chain to engage due to the slip of the chain. SOLUTION: In this sprocket G for the roller chain in which a plurality of teeth T are formed on the outer periphery thereof on both sides of a teeth intermediate part Ts at equal pitches, when a drive force is transmitted to the roller chain CH or from the roller chain CH, each tooth T and each tooth intermediate part Ts are so formed that chain rollers R come into contact with only the pressure transmission side face Sp of the tooth T or the pressure transmission side face Sp and the longitudinal side face So of the adjacent tooth opposed to the side face and do not come into contact with a tooth bottom part Tb.
