<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bacteriostatic composition containing grapefruit seed extract and phylostachys pubescens stem epidermis extract effective for food having high water activity without spoiling the taste of the food. <P>SOLUTION: The bacteriostatic composition comprises grapefruit seed extract and phylostachys pubescens stem epidermis extract. A bacteriostatic composition comprising flavonoid derived from grapefruit seed and 2,6-dimethoxy-1,4-benzoquinone is provided. A sweetener composition comprising a sweetener, flavonoid derived from grapefruit seed, 2,6-dimethoxy-1,4-benzoquinone and water is provided.
