PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanning optical device having high accuracy in which the deviation of colors is prevented with a simple structure. SOLUTION: The scanning optical device is provided with: a single rotating polygon mirror; a first and a second laser generators; and a first and a second BD elements for detecting light emitting time, and a deflection and scanning jobs are simultaneously performed with the first and the second laser beams on different faces of the rotating polygon mirror. The first BD element is so formed to detect the first laser beam, the second BD element is so formed to detect the second laser beam, a face detection means is provided for detecting a specified face of the rotating polygon mirror, and a control means is provided which is characterized by that write timing based on the BD signal of either the first BD element or the second BD element is generated according to the detected result of the face detection means.
