The flexible protective and/or climbing lattice consists of a lattice element (1) consisting of horizontally and vertically extending wire elements interconnected at crossing points. The vertically extending wire elements consist of round wire (3) or something close to a round cross section. The horizontally extending wire elements each consist of a flat band element (2) with a cross section conforming to a flat form such as oval, elliptical or polygonal. The horizontally extending flat band elements have a high flexibility in the plane of their longitudinal extent, but a high flexural rigidity in the plane perpendicular to their longitudinal extent.
