PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the rotor of a motor capable of enhancing thermal conductivity between a permanent magnet 5 and a rotor core 3, and to provide its manufacturing process. SOLUTION: In the rotor of a motor 1 comprising a rotor core 3 formed by laminating magnetic thin plates and a permanent magnet 5 inserted into a magnet insertion hole 4 extending in the direction of rotating axis of the rotor core 3, a coating layer 7 of an elastic material is formed on the surface of the permanent magnet 5 touching the magnet insertion hole 4 such that the dimension of a cross-section perpendicular to the inserting direction of the magnet insertion hole 4 becomes larger than the dimension of opening of the magnet insertion hole 4. A groove is made at least in the coating layer 7 formed on two surfaces on the outer and inner circumferential sides of the rotor on the contact surface of the permanent magnet 5.
