PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a pile of ink separated from a medium and possibly contaminating the medium being printed in an ink jet printer, or the like. SOLUTION: The liquid ejector comprising a head for ejecting liquid toward a medium, and a groove part for depositing the liquid ejected from the head and not reaching onto the medium is provided with a sensor for detecting the quantity of liquid deposited in the groove part.
