PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of constructing a steel structure having a truss beam profitable, highly safe and easy of precise management. SOLUTION: After columns 2 paired across a first existing structure 11a are constructed in a plurality of sets, the adjacent columns 2 are connected near their top portions to each other via tie beams 4 along the outer wall of the first existing structure 11a. A back stay 12 has one end fixed to a top portion of the column 2 and the other end fixed to an earth anchor 13 in a ground. A plurality of truss structural members 6 are mounted on a span toward its central portion in sequence so that they are jumped out of the columns 2 paired across the first existing structure 11a. Both truss structural members 6 facing each other near the central portion of the span are connected to each other via a central truss structural member 10 to construct a truss beam 5. The truss beam 5 bridged on the columns 2 paired across the first existing structure 11a are connected to each other via the tie beams 4 to construct the steel structure 1.
