<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a deterioration in a body to be charged due to discharge and sticking of discharge products on the body to be charged with respect to an electrostatic charging device etc., equipped with an electrostatic charging member charging the body to be charged which is charged while moving in a prescribed direction and a current measuring means of measuring a current flowing owing to electric charges on the body to be charged, and an image forming apparatus equipped with the electrostatic charging device. <P>SOLUTION: This charging device has characteristics such that the charged body 11 increases in charging voltage almost linearly up to a prescribed inter-peak threshold voltage as an alternating inter-peak voltage rises and the charging voltage is nearly constant when the alternating inter-peak voltage is higher than the prescribed inter-peak threshold voltage. A power source control part 134 detects the inter-peak threshold voltage Vth based upon currents measured by current measuring means 20 and 22 and controls the alternating voltage of a power source 132 to be superposed on a DC voltage according to the inter-peak threshold voltage Vth. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
