<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus for reducing image quality deterioration in the case of magnifying and outputting image data in a memory, and to prevent an image processing speed from being controlled by a read speed of the memory at reduction magnification. <P>SOLUTION: A first compression section compresses image data read by a scanner 101 by a fixed length, and a first memory stores the compressed data via a general purpose bus PCI 190. The image data read from the first memory by a first memory controller are expanded by a first expansion section 303 and thereafter subjected to image quality revision processing by using a filter coefficient of a filter 304 and magnification processing by a magnification unit 306, and the result is compressed by a second compression section 310 and stored in a second memory.
