PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a contents distributing method capable of easily changing screen display, sound output, or the like at a reception side by extracting a label added to a node contained in scene description information for composing MPEG-4 data, and by distributing information on the extracted label with the scene description information; and to provide a contents distribution system. SOLUTION: In the contents distribution method, a distribution side prepares label information where the information of the label added to the node is extracted from the scene description information described by BIFS, and distributes the label information with the data containing the scene description information. The reception side receives the label information and the data containing the scene description information, refers to the received label information, detects characteristic data to be changed that are contained in the scene description information, changes the detected characteristic data based on input data specified by an input means, and performs the screen display based on the changed scene description information.
