PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform efficient cooling without boiling a coolant and also to improve maintenance such as the replacement of a lamp. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal projector is equipped with a lamp for a light source, a liquid crystal panel, a power source and a fan for removing heat generated from the power source and the lamp. A water cooling jacket 9 is provided on the inner surface of the outer wall part of the liquid crystal projector opposed to the lamp, metal piping 13 for radiating heat is arranged on the outer wall part, and a pump 14 for driving the coolant flowing in the jacket 9 is provided. The coolant which receives the generated heat from the lamp forms a circulation path circulating through the jacket 9, the piping 13 and the pump 14, and the generated heat is discharged to the outside through the metal piping 13. Then, cushioning material for lowering the temperature of the coolant by restraining heat transfer amount is made to intervene between the outer surface of the lamp and the jacket 9 so as to come in contact with both of them.
