PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compressing device enabling a reduction in cost and size and the simplification of an output control mechanism. SOLUTION: A horizontal drive shaft 50 rotatingly driven by a single motor including a motor rotor 80 is installed in a single outer shell 12, and two sets of scroll type compressors driven by the drive shaft are disposed on both sides of the outer shell. By a single hydraulic pump 58 driven by the drive shaft, lubricating oil is supplied to the two sets of compressors through a passage in the drive shaft. A pulse width modulated capacity control mechanism 212 and a steam filling mechanism 214 can be installed in one set or both sets of the compressors. When both mechanisms are installed in one set, the capacity can be varied between 50 and 110%, and when installed in two sets, the capacity can be varied between 0 and 120%.
