PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the controller of a compression ignition internal combustion engine capable of preventing the internal combustion engine from misfiring or engine-stalling by securing the stability of combustion ignition, and improving exhaust gas properties by enlarging an executive range of compression ignition even when the internal combustion engine is in a loaded state or a cold state. SOLUTION: The controller 1 of the compression ignition internal combustion engine 2 can change over a combustion mode into a compression ignition mode for igniting an air fuel mixture supplied into a combustion chamber 2c with a compression ignition, and a spark ignition mode for igniting with a spark ignition. The controller is provided with load detection means 3 and 14 for detecting the load of the internal combustion engine 2; and an additional fuel injection means 3 at a low loaded time for conducting the additional fuel injection to additionally inject fuel into a combustion chamber 2c, when the detected load of the internal combustion engine 2 is lower than the predetermined load in the case where the ignition mode is the compression ignition mode.
