PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an anti-pilling polyester fiber capable of producing high-strength polyester fiber having excellent anti-pilling property while keeping stable operability and quality in polymerization and fiber making. SOLUTION: The method for producing the anti-pilling polyester fiber comprises adding an organic sulfonic acid compound in an amount of 1×10<SP>-5</SP>to 1×10<SP>-2</SP>mol based on 1 mol total acid components of the polyester as a polycondensation catalyst to the polyester, when producing the polyester composed of a terephthalic acid component or an aromatic dicarboxylic acid component mainly composed of the terephthalic acid, and ethylene glycol, making the resultant polyester having 0.37-0.80 intrinsic viscosity into a yarn and then carrying out moist heat treatment of the resultant fiber.
