PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ball end mill with which superior machined surface properties can be obtained, and which is reduced in cutting resistance in the vicinity of its axis. SOLUTION: In this ball end mill characterized in that a projection is arranged on the ball part tip 2 of the ball end mill, and the height of the projection is set to 0.02 mm or less in an end mill side view, the width of the projection is set to 1 to 4 times the height of the projection; an edge is arranged on a side surface of the projection; and a projection is arranged on the ball part tip, so that cutting quantity itself is reduced; resistance of a tip part is reduced; and machining can be performed without causing chattering and tearing on a machined surface.
