<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink set which is used for ink jet recording with high speed ink jet printers, can quickly be dried, gives high optical concentrations, and does not give uneven printed products, to provide a method for ink jet recording, by which letters having excellent grades can be obtained in high optical concentrations at large drying rates, and to provide an apparatus for ink jet recording. <P>SOLUTION: This ink set for ink jet recording, comprising a black ink and color inks comprising cyan, magenta and yellow inks, wherein the black ink contains at least an agent to be coagulated, and one or more of the color inks contain at least a coagulating agent, is characterized by follows. The contact angles of the black ink and the color inks to materials to be recorded are ≤50 degree after one second. The surface tensions of the black ink and the color inks are ≤40 mN/m. The differences between the surface tension of the black ink and the surface tensions of the coagulating agent-containing color inks are ≤5 mN/m.
