PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily insert a fork into a fork insert part of a pallet even if the pallet is inclined against a travelling surface of a forklift truck. SOLUTION: During the time when the forklift travels toward the pallet by the predetermined distance to insert the fork into the fork insert hole of the pallet for loading, existence of forward/backward inclination of the fork in relation to the inserting direction into the fork insert hole and existence of height displacement of the fork in relation to the fork insert hole are detected on the basis of a result of detections by a plurality of sensors provided in a tip and a base end of the fork. Operation mode for correcting the inclination and the height displacement is set, and the fork is elevated, while inclining forward/backward, to arrange the tip and the base end of the fork at a nearly central part in the vertical direction of the fork insert hole.
