PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively suppress the heat roughening on the surface of a heat-sensitive recording paper. SOLUTION: The heat-generating element array 14a of a thermal head 14 pressure contacts the color heat-sensitive recording paper 11 on a platen roller to effect thermal-recording of an image thereon. The platen roller 25 is cooled by a cooling air from a cooling fan 27 during recording of a cyano picture having the temperature of the heat-generating element array 14a to be heated highest. The color heat-sensitive recording paper 11 is cooled from its rear face side with the cooled platen roller 25 substantially simultaneously being heated with the thermal head 14 to rapidly decrease the surface temperature of the color heat-sensitive recording paper 11 right after being heated.
