<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silica-magnesia formulation composed of a material authorized as a food additive in Japan and effectively used for applications for refining a liquid food product, and the like, each containing an acidic ingredient which is toxic or unnecessary or in an amount more than necessary including especially refining of an edible oil or recycling of the repetitively used edible oil. <P>SOLUTION: The formulation comprises a silica ingredient and a magnesia ingredient in a ratio to provide a weight ratio (R) represented by the formula R=Sw/Mw (wherein, Sw is the content of the silica ingredient expressed in terms of SiO<SB>2</SB>; and Mw is the content of the magnesia ingredient expressed in terms of MgO) within the range of 0.1≤R≤1.9. At least a part of the silica ingredient and that of the magnesia ingredient form a microlayer structure in which the silica ingredient layer and the magnesia ingredient layer are joined side by side.
