<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of analyzing particulate matter in engine exhaust gas capable of enhancing detection sensitivity on hydrocarbon when analyzing particulate matter, thereby capable of analyzing a microscopic amount of or an ultramicroscopic amount of particulate matter with high sensitivity. <P>SOLUTION: According to this method of analyzing particulate matter in engine exhaust gas, a filter 2 is provided in a heating furnace 1, with particulate matter contained in engine exhaust gas G collected in the filter 2. Firstly, while supplying inert gas to the heating furnace 1, the filter 2 is heated at a prescribed temperature to vaporize hydrocarbon in the particulate matter and the vaporized hydrocarbon is oxidated into CO<SB>2</SB>. This CO<SB>2</SB>is analyzed at a gas analysis part 12. Then, while supplying gaseous oxygen to the heating furnace 1, the filter 2 is heated to oxidate particulate matter remaining on the filter 2, thereby generating CO<SB>2</SB>. The CO<SB>2</SB>is analyzed at the analysis part 12. The supply of inert gas to the heating furnace 1 stopped for a prescribed period of time from the beginning of a process for vaporizing hydrocarbon in the particulate matter in a high-temperature inert gas atmosphere. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
