<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic certificate which can certify, by using the electronic certificate of an individual to whom authority is assigned by a corporation, the intent of the corporation, and to provide an authentication method and an authentication program. <P>SOLUTION: A registration authority 25 receives an electronic certificate issuing application in which the name of the corporation a user belongs to, name of the representative of the corporation, name of the department the user belongs to, and the title of the user are contained. The registration authority 25 confirms the reality of the corporation based on the name of the corporation and the name of the representative of the corporation set forth in the certified copy of commercial registration. Also, the registration authority 25 confirms the intent of the representative of the corporation to certify the name of the department and the title of the user by verifying the identity between the imprint of the seal of the representative of the corporation in the application and the imprint of the seal of the representative of the corporation on the certificate of a seal impression. An RA registration job server 26 generates a pair of user keys and requests an IA job server 31 to issue the electronic certificate.
