PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent moisture generated by heating a color thermal recording sheet from forming a dew on the surface of a thermal head. SOLUTION: A partial glaze layer 23 is provided on a head substrate 22 to project in the shape of a cylindrical surface. A heating resistor layer 31 is provided on the partial glaze layer 23, and a discrete electrode 25 and a turn down electrode 27 are provided on the heating resistor layer 31. A coarse surface part 32 is formed on the surface of the partial glaze layer 23 located on the turn down electrode side and an electrodeless area 30 is provided. A protective film 28 is formed on the coarse surface part 32 and the surface of the protective film 28 is made coarse. Temperature drop on the surface of a thermal head is suppressed by the turn down electrode 27 having a small area and dew formation is eliminated. Furthermore, gloss of a color thermal recording sheet is prevented from deteriorating because the coarse surface of the protective film 28 serves as escape of steam. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
