The apparatus lowers or hauls in an unmanned underwater vehicle (11) from a platform. The vehicle is remotely controlled via a data transmission cable (13) which is provided with armor of greater tensile strength than the weight of the underwater vehicle, and firmly attached to the underwater vehicle. A hoist with a winding drum (17) is provided on the platform for winding the cable in or out.
