CARBON NANOTUBE REINFORCED ALUMINUM COMPOSITE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon nanotube reinforced aluminum composite in which the formation of reaction products in the interface between a carbon fiber and an aluminum alloy as a matrix can be suppressed. SOLUTION: The composite material has: a matrix containing aluminum as a principal component; and a reinforcement which consists of a mixture of carbon nanotubes and carbon nanocapsules and is composed within the above matrix. The reinforcement in an amount ranging from 5 to 30 vol.% is composed with the matrix. The carbon nanotube has a surface surrounded by the graphite base. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
