PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display and an electronic appliance in which distortion of a liquid crystal display panel unit can be suppressed in a simple structure without obstructing the purpose of minimizing the size. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display is equipped with: a window frame chassis 3 having a display window 4 formed; a liquid crystal panel unit 11 housed in the window frame chassis 3, with the display face 2 exposed through the display window 4; a metal plate 16 applied on the back face of the liquid crystal panel unit 11, with the portion out of the back face fixed to the window frame chassis 3; a back lid chassis 5 attached to the window frame chassis 3 and closing the space where the liquid crystal panel unit 11 and the metal plate 16 are housed; and a projection part 17 projecting on the metal plate 16, with the top end in contact with the inner face 31 of the back lid chassis 5.
