<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the maximum denitrification effect by the use of a relatively small amount of denitrification base material and to maintain the effect over a long period in a biochemical denitrification treatment using denitrification bacteria. <P>SOLUTION: The denitrification device 1 has a structure where: a submerged pump 3 installed in such a manner that a discharge port is directed upward for generating a water stream is sunk in a tank 2 which can store water to be treated as the object for denitrification; and further a plurality of denitrification base materials 5 on which sulfur oxidizing bacteria stored in a net, a basket or a mesh are supported are hung from a plurality of floating bodies 4 floating on the water surface as supports.
