PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope system compatible with a plurality of observation modes and a signal processor in which observation mode switching operation selects only an operation mode with which an endoscope connected to the signal processor is compatible and the signal processor processes a signal corresponding to the selected mode. SOLUTION: The endoscope 2 has a solid imaging element at its distal end and is compatible with the plurality of observation modes. The signal processor 3 can be connected with the endoscope 2 and processes an imaging signal from the solid imaging element. The signal processor 3 can carry out signal processing corresponding to the plurality of observation modes. makes usable only processing corresponding to the observation mode with which the connected endoscope 2 compatible, and prohibits using of a function corresponding to the other modes.
