PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize efficient cooling by utilizing a color wheel as a baffle plate in a projection type display device where white light from a light source is color-separated in a time-division manner by using the color wheel. SOLUTION: A channel for separating cooling air generated by a cooling fan to cooling air for cooling the light source and cooling air for cooling an optical device by using the color wheel as the baffle plate is formed in a device housing. The light source and the optical device are cooled simultaneously by using the cooling fan, and also the cooling air for cooling the light source, whose temperature is raised after cooling the light source, is prevented from flowing into space including the optical device, whereby the temperature rise of the optical device is restrained.
