PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal head and a heat transfer printer using the thermal head by which an image printing of a high grade is possible by eliminating wrinkles of an ink ribbon which occur on a thermal head during printing. SOLUTION: This thermal head 1 is equipped with an insulating substrate 2, and a plurality of heating elements 3 which are formed on the substrate 2. The edge parts of the substrate 2 in the vicinities of the heating elements 3 has a chamfered section 2b of a specified dimension. When the central section in the width direction of the substrate 2 is taken as a dimension C1, and both end section sides are taken as a dimension C2, the chamfering dimension of the chamfered section 2b satisfies C1<C2.
