A method of screening a candidate inhibitor, for potential inhibition of Cytochome P45024 (CYP24) gene expression level or CYP24 activity. The method including the step of contacting an expression system with the candidate inhibitor. The expression system comprises a chimeric nucleic acid which has a promoter including CYP24 specific Ets-I binding site (EBS). The promoter is operably linked to a reporter gene. The method further includes the step of estimating the level of expression of the reporter gene and comparing this with a standard.
